A Tranquil Mind
53" x 42" | 2022
This quilt began with pieced scraps on my design wall and no idea at all. Over time it grew into this portrait of my brain, aspirational because the brain is so often not tranquil.
Starting only with color and pattern, eventually I saw meaning in each band: the brown one is memory, the chartreuse one is the senses, the gray one is logical thought, the blue one is imagination and creativity, and the top band is emotion. In the center of a tranquil mind, patterns are orderly, while the craziness migrates to the periphery.
